Brief Three – Memento Mori

Brief Three – Memento Mori

Photo Editing Process:

In order to edit the photos I used Photoshop. For all of the images, I wanted to maintain the warmth and softness of nature and beauty, and so ensured the saturation and vibrance was slightly increased as to not allow it to seem too overcast. As to ensure the images kept a somewhat ‘house style’, I tried to edit each in a similar way, often heightening the brightness and increasing the contrast slightly. Another key editing tool i used was ensuring that the offset was very slightly increased, this would add more softness and slightly fade or mist the image. However, often I try to leave the exposure as is, as to not make the sky look over exposed, and too bright.

within the black and white images however, I would also incorporate the burn tool into them, as this helped to deepen the contrast, which i feel gave the image more depth and a more serious tone. However, as to ensure the monotone photos didn’t look too harsh, I also would increase the offset on the black and white images, as it would then add the softness talked about earlier, to these contrasting images.

Within some areas on the faces of the model, I used the dodge tool slightly, as to help light the face if there had been too much darkness, however other than these adjustments there was no other major editing.

I did try to experiment with editorial layouts, and looked into adding frames to some of the images. Originally i was going to just try white frames, however I started to try using images that I already had, that I could overlay another image onto. I primarily would take one of the images from this shoot, and crop an area od which i felt would work well as a background. Once I had done this, I then places the image I wanted to fame on top and centred it. Overall I felt this all worked well, and was very pleased with the results!
